Ibn Bajjah

Ibn Bajjah
Muslims are believed to have reached Spain in the time friend.Their arrival has managed to influence the lives of people there, especially in the areas of knowledge and ketarnadunan. Even the impact of Islamic civilization can still be seen up to this day.

During the Muslim rule in Spain, also known as Andalusia, was born many cendi-kiawan and scholars in various fields. Some of them are members of the science, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, philosophy, literature, and so on.

One of them was Abu Bakr Muhammad Ibn Yahya al-Saigh, or better known as Ibn Bajjah. He was born in Saragossa in the year 1082 AD (M). Ibn Bajjah is a writer and a leading member of the language. In this case, he was a poet of al-Murabbitin group led by Abu Bakr Ibrahim Ibn Tafalwit. In addition, Ibn Bajjah is also a musician and fiddle player that is reliable. However he is also a hafiz of the Qur'an. At the same time, Ibn Bajjah well known in the medical field and was one of the greatest doctors ever born in Andalusia.

However, the intensity is also reflected in politics until he became minister when Abu Bakr Ibrahim authorities in Saragossa. Even more amazing when he can dominate mathematics, physics, and astronomy. On occasion he has written books related to logic.Ability to control a wide range of knowledge that made him the greatest degree unmatched even in Andalusia, and perhaps in the Muslim world. So, its contribution in the field of knowledge enormous.
In the field of philosophy, for instance, Ibn Bajjah can be placed on par with al-Farabi and Aristotle. In the field, he put forward the idea of divine philosophy stipulates that people can connect with the mind through the medium fa'al knowledge and the development of human potential.
According to Ibn Bajjah, humans can approach God through the practice of thinking and not necessarily through the practice of Sufism given by Iman al-Ghazali. With the knowledge and practice of thinking, all the priorities and actions can be directed to lead a moral and mental control. These efforts can be defeated in the nature of the nested haiwaniah human liver.
According to his opinion, one should empower their struggle to connect with nature whether with people or independently. If society is not good, then one has to retreat and be alone. Ibn Bajjah philosophical positions is clearly influenced by the ideas of al-Farabi. Ibn Bajjah philosophical thought can be followed in "leaflet al-Wada 'and the book" al-Muttawwahid Governance "which is generally a defense to the works of al-Farabi and Ibn Sina, except that part pertaining to the silence and alone.
However, some researchers say that the book is similar to the book "Al-Madinah al'Fadhilah" written by al-Farabi. In the book, al-Farabi explained his views on politics and philosophy. Al-Farabi when talking about politics has been suggested that a welfare state, led by established philosophers.
A significant similarities between al-Farabi Ibn Bajjah were both put science above all else. They almost agree that reason and revelation is a solid fact. Any attempt to separate the two will only create a society and country bias. Therefore, reason and revelation must be the basis and foundation construction of a nation and a happy society. Ibn Bajjah think that the mind can cause people to know what things or whether the existence of God. Reason alone can recognize these things without being influenced by elements of spirituality through the practice of Sufism.
In addition, Ibn Bajjah has also written a book called "Al-Nafs" which deals with issues related to the soul. Discussion was greatly influenced by Greek philosophical ideas. For this reason, Ibn Bajjah much made the comments on the work and writings of Aristotle, Galenos, al-Farabi, and al-Razi. Her interest in issues related to the divinity and metaphysics, far outstripping other fields although he was also skilled in psychology, politics, medicine, algebra, and so on. When talking about logic, Ibn Bajjah considered opinion that something is either really exist or not depends on whether there is or is believed to be a possibility. Thus, what has been believed that truth and in fact one could be a possibility that may be true and not true.
Actually, many things in this world that can not be described using logic. So, Ibn Bajjah learn other knowledge to help them understand the things related to metaphysics. Science and physics for example, used by Ibn Bajjah to resolve the question of substance and appearance. According to Ibn Bajjah, things can not exist without the form but the appearance without the substance may be present. Therefore, we can describe the shape and appearance of a different.
Ibn Bajjah skills in mathematics and physics is certified but did not try to solve the problems that arise. Instead knowledge is used to strengthen the arguments and views on the philosophical and metaphysical questions. Even more philosophical Ibn Bajjah unknown because most of the work of his writings were destroyed. Material left and come down to us only the remnants of scattered documents in various libraries in Europe.
Some philosophical views clearly ahead of his time. For example, he has been using the expression of human beings as social beings, by Western scholars to do so. Similarly, the concept of civil society has been tried in his indirect way.
Indeed, a prominent scholar Ibn Bajjah great. According to this he was given a high position and honor by the Murabbitin. But feelings of envy and jealousy led him poisoned and eventually died in 1138 (M) in a very young age. Despite the age of Ibn Bajjah not long, but the contributions and insights have laid a sound foundation to the development of science and philosophy in the land of Andalusia.
