Malaysia: Launched – a portal that sheds true light on Islam

Malaysia: Launched – a portal that sheds true light on Islam

The IslamGRID portal will be a source of information that provides credible reference and explanation about Islam to the public.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said users could obtain accurate information that would not require second or third party verification.

“All issues related to the religion such as halal food and haj are on this portal,” he said during the launch of the IslamGRID seminar and portal.

A third season of the Adik-Adikku reality television show was also launched at the Kompleks Pusat Islam yesterday.

Jamil said technology was a tool and an avenue for beneficial information but also allowed the spread of negative content.

“We must prepare authentic and truthful content about Islam to balance the flood’ of outside information that could threaten the beliefs of Muslims,” he said.

The website, www.islamgrid.gov.my, is a project by the Malaysian Department of Islamic Development and Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit.
At a press conference later, Jamil said the issue of implementing hudud in a multi-racial culture should be resolved wisely.

When asked if Umno establishing an ulama council was relevant in its Islamic struggle, he said it might complement the Islamic councils in the states but it would need to be discussed further.
